Gu Jiao had already struggled to escape from An Hun when she was alone. Now, carrying the Emperor on her back, she was even less of a match for An Hun.
What the heck was Gu Chengfeng doing?
Had it really been a full quarter of an hour?
Gu Chengfeng: Clearly, it was the Emperor who got stuck in the doghole for half the time!
Gu Jiao suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of impending doom.
An Hun’s murderous aura closed in on her at an alarming speed, but since she was carrying the Emperor, he hesitated to strike directly, unwilling to risk harming the Emperor.
Instead, his goal was simply to snatch the Emperor back.
Without hesitation, Gu Jiao flung three black gunpowder balls behind her!
An Hun’s eyes narrowed sharply.
His figure froze momentarily in midair before he twisted his body in an agile spin and dodged the attack, landing lightly on the tip of a large tree branch.
The black gunpowder balls struck the ground, exploding in rapid succession with a deafening roar.
Gu Jiao clenched her teeth, feeling a twinge of frustration.
Shouldn’t an expert of your caliber be able to catch hidden weapons with your bare hands?
What’s the meaning of you dodging?
From his perch on the tree, An Hun casually grabbed a long vine and lashed it toward Gu Jiao with a crisp crack. The vine whipped through the air with a sharp hiss before coiling tightly around her slender waist.
A tremendous force pulled Gu Jiao toward him.
She had only two choices: either surrender and be captured along with the Emperor, or throw the Emperor down, forcing An Hun to abandon her to save him, giving her the chance to escape.
She didn’t want to die.
But at the same time, she absolutely would not give up the Emperor now that he was in her hands!
In an instant, her fingers pressed against the hilt of the dagger at her waist.
But before she could even draw it, An Hun struck with lightning speed, knocking the weapon from her grasp with a single palm strike!
This bastard!
At the very last moment, just as everything was hanging by a thread, a figure suddenly burst in from the side. With a swift, decisive swing of the sword, they slashed through the vine in one clean stroke!
Gu Jiao and the Emperor crashed heavily to the ground.
The newcomer stood in front of them, sword in hand, blocking their way. Through the veil covering their face, they spoke firmly, “Go now!”
It was Ye Qing’s voice!
Gu Jiao glanced at Ye Qing, clad in black night suit, then shifted her gaze to the four masked death warriors who had arrived alongside him. Judging by their presence, it was clear that the Imperial Advisor's Hall had chosen to intervene.
“Be careful!” Gu Jiao warned.
“I will.” Ye Qing gripped his sword tightly and sprang into action.
Together with the four death warriors from the Imperial Advisor’s Hall, he launched a coordinated assault against An Hun.
Gu Jiao took advantage of the opportunity. She seized the Emperor with both hands, threw him over her shoulder once more, and ran for her life!
Behind her, the fierce clash of weapons rang through the air. The entire street seemed to be shrouded in a thick, oppressive killing intent.
The combination of the Imperial Advisor’s Hall’s top disciple and four highly skilled death warriors was a terrifying force.
But even so, killing An Hun was an impossible feat.
“Execute the formation! Trap him!”
With a single command from Ye Qing, the five of them swiftly formed a formation, completely surrounding An Hun.
An Hun’s cold gaze swept over the five unexpected interlopers. The corners of his lips curved into a mocking smirk, saying, “Just the few of you? And you think you can stop me?”
Ye Qing’s voice was equally icy. “Whether we can or not, you’ll find out soon enough. Or are you afraid to try? I suppose it makes sense. You conspired with a deposed imperial noble consort and imprisoned the Emperor. That’s a crime punishable by the extermination of your entire clan. If you’re willing to surrender now, perhaps I might even consider sparing your life.”
An Hun let out a chilling laugh. “Trying to buy time? Pointless.”
As soon as he finished speaking, his figure flickered, and in the blink of an eye, he was already right in front of Ye Qing.
His speed was so astonishingly fast that Ye Qing barely saw a flicker of his shadow. By the time he registered what was happening, An Hun’s palm had already struck him with immense force, sending him flying through the air!
Almost simultaneously, An Hun channeled the last of his internal force, unleashing a fierce wave that sent the remaining four death warriors hurtling through the air as well!
His goal was to reclaim the Emperor; he had no intention of wasting too much energy on Ye Qing and the others.
Ye Qing crashed onto a rooftop, clutching his chest as he spat out a mouthful of blood. His expression darkened. “Damn it… he escaped this quickly…”
Xiao Liulang, from here on out, it’s all up to you.
“Achoo!”
Gu Jiao was running steadily with the Emperor slung over her shoulder when, out of nowhere, she sneezed.
At that exact moment, she inexplicably stepped on something slick and slimy, causing her to faceplant straight into the ground!
Seriously?
Who on earth is talking about her behind her back this time?
Xiao Liulang’s name is truly cursed—
With a dark expression, Gu Jiao pushed herself up, covered in dirt and grass. Just as she was about to grab the Emperor and resume her escape, Gu Chengfeng caught up to her with his qinggong.
“Hey, are you alright?” Gu Chengfeng asked.
Gu Jiao, looking thoroughly disheveled with her hair resembling a bird’s nest and her clothes covered in debris, shook her head. “I’m fine. Ye Qing and the others are here now, but I doubt they can hold An Hun off for long. You take the Emperor and go, we’ll split up.”
Earlier, Gu Jiao had sent Gu Chengfeng to lure An Hun away because he was the only one who could pull it off. Now, she was entrusting him with taking the Emperor because, once again, he was the only one who could do it.
What she didn’t say was that during that unfortunate fall, she had twisted her ankle.
Gu Chengfeng frowned. “But you…”
Gu Jiao pulled out a bone whistle. “Black Wind King will come to get me. You need to leave now.”
She hadn’t used the bone whistle before because she was afraid it would reveal her location. Summoning the Black Wind King too soon could also draw An Hun straight to her.
But now, she had no choice.
Gu Chengfeng gritted his teeth. “I know exactly what you’re trying to do. But this time… I’m not going to listen to you!”
An Hun was not Han Ye. Falling into his hands meant there wasn’t even a sliver of hope for survival!
Without another word, Gu Chengfeng secured the Emperor over one shoulder and wrapped his other arm around Gu Jiao.
He gathered his internal force and leaped into the air with his qinggong.
But at that very moment, An Hun arrived.
His sharp eyes narrowed slightly, locking onto Gu Chengfeng’s legs. Without wasting a second, he swung his sword down in a ruthless, precise strike!

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
